NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF ANNUAL ELECTION PEORIA TRIBE OF INDIANS OF OKLAHOMA
Scheduled Saturday, March 2, 2019
The Election Committee of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma announces the cancellation of the Annual Election scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2019. The positions to be filled at this Election were Secretary and Third Councilman.
Tonya Mathews, incumbent, was the only candidate to file for the position of Secretary. Isabella Burrell, incumbent, was the only candidate to file for the position of Third Councilman. All candidates were declared elected by the Election Committee. Each will serve a term of four (4) years.
According to the Election Ordinance: “In the event that only one candidate files for elective office, that candidate shall be declared elected. In the event a candidate is declared elected, it will not be necessary for the Peoria Tribe to conduct an election by ballot for that elective office. Furthermore, in the event the candidate is declared elected, the candidate shall assume office immediately in the case of a vacancy, or at the next annual Peoria Council meeting upon the expiration of an elected official’s term.”

All candidates must file their Declaration of Candidacy forms and pay the filing fee, in person, with the Election Committee or Election Committee’s designated representative at the Peoria Tribal Office, 118 South Eight Tribes Trail in Miami, Oklahoma, during normal working hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday). The deadline for filing is 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. *Candidates may provide a typed statement in person when filing for candidacy, or email statement to lhickey@new.peoriatribe.com by the filing deadline; all statements will be printed exactly as submitted, no additions or corrections will be made.

Chief Craig Harper of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma announces a special meeting of the Peoria Tribal Committee will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Tribal Headquarters, 118 S. Eight Tribes Trail, Miami, Oklahoma, convening at 6:00 p.m. The agenda will be limited to the application of ICDBG Grant Application. A complete agenda will be posted at the tribal headquarters 24 hours prior to the meeting.
